Not so long ago, a “TV adaptation” of a popular book series would have been viewed as a disappointment by some fans. A movie adaptation promised top stars, big budgets, and the latest CGI; which was not common with TV adaptations.

Recently, however, the world has experienced a ‘golden age of television’, with many modern television shows capable of emulating (or even exceeding) what some movie studios are capable of in terms of cinematography, d ‘special effects and star quality. never been a better time for the TV adaptation.

At the center of this list, the Harry Potter series was a cultural phenomenon across the world. Even years after the main series ended, a new generation of fans fall in love with the Wizarding World and visit the various theme parks that have sprung up due to popularity.

While the movies are amazing, a modern TV series could have explored the story of the book a lot more and more characters than the movies. This would allow famous cut scenes, such as the Death Festival, to finally be adapted for the small screen.

9 Seventh Son needs a TV show to retrieve its source material

Perhaps the least known on this list, The Seventh Son is an adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s fantastic Wardstone Chronicles. The book series follows a Spook apprentice named Tom Ward as he grapples with all manner of dark creatures, from witches to boggarts.

The film was a startling disappointment, barely resembling the book it was based on. A television series would be the redemption that this incredible series of books deserves.

8 Percy Jackson fans finally get what they deserve

The Percy Jackson series is one of the most popular young adult franchises of decades. The series, set in the modern era, follows a demigod called Percy Jackson as he battles all manner of mythological creatures and learns to control his own divine powers.

A film adaptation has been released, but it disappointed fans and critics alike when it was released. A TV series adaptation is in the works and it would take an achievement to be worse than the movies.

7 Hunger games would be gold standard television


The hunger Games, in a way, kicked off a new era of young adult book adaptations in the wake of Harry Potter and dusk. However, unlike other film adaptations of the time, The Hunger Games stood out from the crowd.

While the movies are great, there’s no denying that a modern TV series would be able to develop the story and characters in a way that a movie’s time constraints wouldn’t allow.

6 The long Halloween would be a fantastic limited series

Along Halloween is one of the most iconic graphic novels of all time. One of the central inspirations of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, the Long Halloween shows the Dark Knight in his early years as he works with James Gordon and Harvey Dent to fight Gotham’s organized crime as a mysterious killer known as Holiday commits murders over the holidays.

The graphic novel recently received a two-part feature film adaptation, but a slow-paced limited series that came close to the source material and iconic Tim Sale art style would have been an incredible sight to see.

5 Artemis Fowl fans deserve a faithful adaptation


One of the more recent film adaptations on this list, Artemis Poultry promised a lot ahead of its disappointing eventual release on Disney +. The book series itself is incredibly popular, featuring a young villain and his character development through multiple installments.

The recent film was almost universally criticized by critics and fans alike, with many pointing to the central character’s lack of depth as one of the more disappointing elements. A TV series would allow for greater character development and meet the expectations of fans.

4 Eragon is ripe for a Disney + TV reboot


Eragon tells the story of a young farm boy who discovers and hatches a dragon egg, while an evil ruler tracks down the boy and the dragon. The series of books was incredibly popular, which ultimately led to a film being released in 2006.

Unfortunately for the fans, the film was a big disappointment and no other Eragon films were made. However, since Disney + acquired the rights to the property, fans have been clamoring for a TV series from this popular book series.

3 Troy (And The Odyssey): A Legendary Tale

Some stories will stand the test of time; said over and over again through the ages. One of these legendary stories is Homer’s Iliad, an epic poem that tells the story of the Greek siege of Troy and the eventual fall of the city to Odysseus’s Trojan horse.

Although there have been several adaptations of the Iliad, none have gone so far as to include the involvement of the Greek pantheon and the “sequel” that followed in the form of the Odyssey. This story is ripe for a new modern storytelling to live up to the stories’ reputation.

2 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was not very extraordinary

The golden age of comic book movies is upon us. Introduced by Christopher Nolan’s exemplary Dark Knight trilogy and taken to new heights by the MCU, comic book movies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. However, comic book movies weren’t always the box office gold they are today.

Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, despite its all-star cast and popular sources, didn’t make an impact among critics or the box office. If ownership had another chance, perhaps television support could make a bigger impact.

1 The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy needs an update

Douglas Adams is one of the most beloved science fiction writers of all time, with his Hitchhikers Guide Galaxy being one of the most beloved series of the genre. Due to this popularity, the property is ripe for a television reboot in the golden age of television.

While a film came out in the mid-2000s, it didn’t generate waves among critics or audiences. As the only television series of Hitchhiker’s Guide dates back to the early 1980s, it’s time to cool off.
