MGM Resorts reopens last casino since COVID-19 shutdown: here’s what it will look like
Today, last day of September 2020, MGM Resorts International (MGM 7.65% ) reopens its last two casinos to public access, resuming operations at NoMad Las Vegas and Park MGM facilities. On top of that, Park MGM reopens as the chain’s very first smoke-free casino resort, adding a state-of-the-art sensibility to MGM’s newest addition.
MGM Resorts says Park MGM ranks among its most popular destinations, mixing casino games, restaurants and a large resort offering 2,700 rooms. Operating under the motto “Let’s Clear the Air,” Park MGM will now be 100% smoke-free, with the exception of a few designated smoking areas, such as the Ride Share Zone, according to the resort’s website. The resort says the aim is to create a cooler atmosphere where “clean air isn’t an oddity or a luxury, it’s a given.” The resort also bans hookahs and marijuana in designated smoking areas.

In addition, MGM Resorts has joined Wynn Resorts (WYNN 8.19% ) proposing plans to safely reopen its properties for conventions, meetings and similar gatherings, all very lucrative for casino operators.
Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak has announced that the state will allow conventions for up to 1,000 participants, provided certain safety protocols are followed. MGM’s comprehensive health and safety plan is based on molecular testing for COVID-19, which delivers results within 20 minutes at the rally site. The company is partnering with Impact Health to perform the tests. Plexiglass barriers, physical distancing, masking requirements and significantly increased sanitation and disinfection are intended to provide additional security.
The Las Vegas Review says Wynn Resorts also plans to use rapid COVID-19 tests for conventions, allowing it “to return to showcasing the entertainment, experiences, nightlife and conventions we are known for,” according to a statement of the society.
